Brainwave Frequencies

Jose Silva

When I was studying psychology, I came across the term hypnosis and I went into that field to study it. Then I came across parapsychology and studied it. Along came the term electroencephalography and I went into electroencephalography to study it.

I started experimenting, checking people’s brains. I started thinking about what I could do with the electroencephalograph. It measures brain frequencies, so I decided to check the brain frequencies of people doing various things. I put a digital counter on the EEG to see the brain frequency in numbers, not wiggles on a chart.

Which Level of Brain Frequencies Do People Use?

I found that on average, 90 percent of the people I tested were thinking on beta, at 20 cycles per second. I would look at the digital counter when I would start talking to an individual. I would ask him a question, and he would answer the question while his brain was functioning at 20 cycles per second. I would ask him how he would solve a problem. When he answered, his brain was still functioning at 20 cycles beta. But 10 percent of the subjects I tested, when I would ask them a question, they would go to 10 cycles alpha, and then come back to 20 cycles beta and give me the answer. It was as though they went to alpha to get the answer, and would give it to me on 20 cycles. I thought, What’s going on here?

I realized that 90 percent of people were using 20 cycles per second to think (Beta), and 10 percent were using 10 cycles per second (Alpha). I wanted to know, Which is the better of the two? Which level is strongest? First I went for synchronization. Which is the more stable of the two? Is 10 more stable than 20? Or 20 more stable than 10? Which is more synchronized? I found that 10 is more synchronized than 20. Interesting, I said. Now what else could I do? I decided to check and see which is the stronger of the two. Again, 10 was stronger than 20. Imagine, 10 cycles (Alpha) is the best place to think, yet 90 percent of the people are doing their thinking on 20 (Beta).

Researching with Children

Now you can hook up a child: 20. Then ask them, How would you solve this problem? What would you do about this problem? Take a child, maybe 10 or 12 years old, and ask him, “How would you clean a car? How would you brighten it up?” “Well,” the child might answer, “I would wash the car.” “What else would you do? Just the car?” “No, the wheels too.” “Okay, the car, the wheels…” “Well, the radiator, also. And then I could polish it up, and so on.” The child would continue until he runs out of ideas. All of this would come at 20 cycles per second. Then, get the child to 10 cycles per second, and he gives you more ideas.

You can ask other things like: “How could you use a pencil? How many uses can you think of for a pencil?” He might answer, “Well, to erase, to write, to stick in my ear.” They give you all kinds of uses for the pencil. But at 20 they run out of answers, or ideas, and when you get them to 10, they come up with more, even though they thought they had run out of them.

More Information at Alpha

There is more information at alpha. That is the benefit. The fact is, you have information to solve more problems. All problems require information to get the solution, to correct them. And information is spiritual. Information is mental. This is one of the major benefits of alpha. Whenever you need information to help you correct a problem, whenever you need ideas, then enter your alpha level and do your thinking at the alpha level. Then come back to beta to implement your ideas. Notice which ideas produce the best results – which ideas are the best for correcting problems – and let this guide you in your future efforts, so that you will continue to get better and better.
